After careful research he purchasing the Trios Colour 3D Optical scanner from 3Shape which is regarded as the leading product in this field.
This state of the art technology has transformed the experience of all his patients. Earlier this year he upgraded the scanner further to the very latest WiFi version from 3Shape which makes it more comfortable to use.

What it means to you?
1. No more messy impressions
Accurate impressions of the teeth and jaws form an essential part of the orthodontic treatment planning processes. Previously the only way to obtain a model of your teeth was by taking a dental impressions using a putty type material – an uncomfortable and messy experience in which a tray of gooey stuff is placed in the patient’s mouth for 1-2 minutes to set around the teeth.
With intra oral 3D optical scanning, a small wand-shaped device is passed over the teeth to take 3D scans of the teeth. The process is a completely mess free, comfortable and highly accurate method of taking impressions. It is worth explaining that these ‘Scans’ do not involve any radiation. They are simply thousands of special photographs which are then cleverly stitched together by the software to produce useable 3d images.
The 3D optical scans can then be emailed to the different laboratories to produce your appliances as required.
2. Great to see your own teeth on the monitor in 3D
The 3D representation on the touch screen monitor allows you to see your teeth from all directions and gain a better appreciation of where the problems are.
3. Simulation
We can use the 3D image file to plan how your smile will improve over the course of the treatment by using virtual treatment simulation software. These simulations can be used to illustrate differences possible with various treatment options, giving you the opportunity to help design your treatment outcome.
